Bienvenue/Welcome,
On behalf of the Department of Biology, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend ABLE 2019 (June 18-21) at the University of Ottawa, located in the heart of Canada’s National capital. Our approach to planning is in part driven by notions of inclusivity. We are the world’s largest officially bilingual university and encourage educators from both French and English high school, college, and university sectors to attend to share new ideas and scholarly works in biology laboratory education.
Our Bioscience Complex near the heart of the campus and next door to the newly constructed state-of-the-art buildings – Learning Crossroads and STEM buildings (where students from all fields will be able to come together to share, collaborate, develop and test ideas) – are the planned venues for conference-related activities. We are proud of these infrastructure investments made by our university to support student engagement and learning. All conference facilities are wheelchair accessible, WIFI enabled, and equipped with technology, including AV-linked auditorium style classrooms, active learning classrooms, and laboratories.
Founded on Algonquin First Nation’s territory, our campus is located near (walking or short driving distances) the Rideau Canal (UNESCO World Heritage Site), National Art Gallery, Parliament Buildings, MANY museums, the Byward Market, and other attractions. The City of Ottawa is well networked by bike and pedestrian trails plus a public transportation system to easily get you to and from many locations.
Come June, the average temperature in Ottawa is 24oC (75oF) but feels a little warmer because of higher humidity. Lastly, by the time ABLE 2019 rolls around, you will have close to 16 hours of full daylight.
On behalf of the uOttawa organizing committee, we hope you can join us in Ottawa at the University of Ottawa for ABLE 2019.
