Northwestern Oklahoma State University
Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Biology in the Department of Natural Science. Salary, based on qualifications and experience, is determined by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and University President and approved by the Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO).
Available: January 2025
Job Summary
The department invites applications for an on-site, full-time, tenure-track assistant/associate professor of biology to begin in January 2025 at the Alva campus. We seek a broadly trained educator in the biological sciences with a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates. Preference will be given to biologists with expertise in ecology, botany, and wildlife conservation. Candidates need to be effective in teaching life science for non-science majors. The ability to teach student populations with diverse educational backgrounds is ideal, as are openness to, and experience in, use of technology for online/remote course delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach biology courses at all levels that complement existing programs in the department (Health Science, Natural History, and Science Education). This includes proficiency in teaching entry-level biology for non-science majors. In particular, we seek a candidate especially well-suited to offer upper-level plant biology coursework such as ecology, plant systematics, wildlife conservation techniques, plant physiology, biology seminar/capstone and additional courses in their field of expertise.
Responsibilities of this position include overseeing and managing the NWOSU Herbarium with opportunities to engage in other departmental and institutional outreach/service learning programs.
The position will benefit from and strengthen existing collaborations between the biology, chemistry, and physics faculty in our tightly knit department; existing professional degree collaborations with other institutions; cooperation with the university’s accredited teacher education and nursing programs; and participation in campus organizations such as the student Biology Club.
Additional responsibilities of this position include advising and mentoring undergraduate science majors, engaging in university committee service, departmental activities, and supporting undergraduate research activities.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a PhD from an accredited institution in biology, a demonstrated record of teaching, and pre-professional student advising. ABD will be considered at the rank of instructor, with hiring contingent upon a degree completion plan presented at the time of interview.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, candidates who have secondary biology education teaching credentials are also encouraged to apply.
Salary and rank will be contingent upon experience.
