Weather and Altitude
One word – Hot! Las Cruces is located in the Chihuahuan Desert in the Southwestern United States. In June it is usually quite hot with daytime highs averaging about 94 F (34 C) and the humidity is usually quite low (<12%). also, due to a lack of trees and clouds, the night time lows are often quite a bit cooler and average in the lower 60’s (~16 c). however, in 2010 early june had a week of temperatures that hovered around 105of (40 c), and the week of the 14th – 17th saw temperatures in the upper 90’s (upper 30’s). please also realize that the elevation of las cruces is close to 3,900 feet (1200 meters). if you are coming from an area of relatively low elevation please realize that you may easily and quickly become dehydrated. this is not only due to the heat but also the elevation. please drink lots of water when you arrive!
Mexico
Although we are about an hour north of Juarez, Mexico we highly discourage travel across the border. At this time Juarez is a very dangerous city, with high levels of drug-related violence. We sincerely would hate to see anyone get hurt; please do not include Juarez in your travel plans. Additional information is available at the U.S. State Dept. Please note that cities on the US side of the border, including EL Paso, Texas are still safe.
