35th Annual ABLE Meeting

We welcomed attendees to the University of Calgary, June 25-28, 2013, for the 35th annual Association for Biology Laboratory Education conference. The University of Calgary (www.ucalgary.ca) is located in the modern and cosmopolitan city of Calgary, Alberta, which is the fourth largest metropolitan area in Canada with just over 1.3 million residents. Nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, less than an hour’s drive from world famous Banff National Park, Calgary is a family-friendly vacation destination with abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation.
The U of C is the second largest university in Alberta, serving over 29,000 full-time students and is currently in the middle of an ambitious five-year institutional plan to become one of the top five research-intensive universities in Canada. We are especially excited to host this year’s ABLE conference using the state-of-the art laboratory and meeting spaces provided by the newly constructed Energy Environment Experiential Learning building and Taylor Family Digital Library. In addition to traditional student residence halls, the recently constructed Yamnuska residence hall and Alma Hotel will provide attendees with comfortable, convenient and affordable on-site lodging.
The U of C is proud to have hosted the first ABLE conference in 1979 and the 19th conference in 1997. All of the past ABLE conferences have provided a wonderfully supportive and collaborative environment for sharing and developing new ideas in biology laboratory education. We were proud to continue this tradition for this 35th annual ABLE meeting in Calgary in 2013!
