ABLE 2015

The 37th annual ABLE conference was held June 23-26, 2015 at Boston University. Boston is the capital city of Massachusetts and covers 48 square miles located on the beautiful Boston Harbor. Here is a bit of trivia for you: Boston is the only capital city on the continuous United States with an ocean coastline. Boston is rich with national history as it is one of the oldest cities in the United States (founded in 1630). While in Boston, we encourage you to take in some of the rich history that is all around. Boston is known for its championship-winning sports teams: the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, Revolution, and Patriots.

Boston University was established in 1839 and the main campus spreads across 135 acres along the banks of the Charles River. The medical campus boasts another 80 acres in scenic South Boston. With a total of almost 30,000 students (graduate and undergraduate), BU is one of the larger institutions in the area. The recently constructed Student Village residence hall offered attendees comfortable and convenient housing as well as provided the breath-taking view in the picture below.

The Boston University Biology Department welcomed the ABLE meeting again – we last hosted the conference in 1996 (Special thanks to Elizabeth Godrick, host). This time around, we were excited to also host a pre-conference, one-day workshop called REIL-Biology. It focused on incorporating research into introductory biology labs and included travel funds for selected participants [more information]. Thanks for coming to Boston!
