The Sights and Sounds of the Ohio State Campus

Be sure to visit the following campus highlights in the campus area (arranged generally east to west):

  • Wexner Center for the Arts
    • Located on the site of the former Armory, this art museum is an architectural homage to the history of the site and features transient exhibitions of film and contemporary art. Admission cost is $8, but free on Thursdays after 4:00 p.m.

  • Whispering Wall and Mortar Board Court
    • Located immediately west of the Wexner Center for the Arts, these two architectural masterpieces demonstrate the marvel of the physics of sound and are worth a quick stop.
  • John Glenn College of Public Affairs (Page Hall)
    • Visit this display (including a moon rock!) commemorating the life and career of John Glenn, US Senator, first human to orbit the Earth, and Ohio State icon.
  • Orton Geology Museum (Orton Hall)
  • Thompson Memorial Library
    • Located at the west end of The Oval, the Thompson Library is the largest of the 15 libraries on the Columbus campus and houses the humanities and social sciences collections. Be sure to take in the 360 degree panoramic view of campus from the 11th floor Reading Room and the scholarly elegance of the 2nd Floor Grand Reading Room overlooking The Oval. Two separate transient exhibitions on the first floor offer a glimpse into academic and research endeavors of The Ohio State University and beyond.
  • Mirror Lake
    • Spring 2018 will see Mirror Lake hollow reopened after a two-year renovation to return the lake to its spring-fed origins. The lake is a popular spot for relaxing and watching local and transitory wildlife.
  • The GeraldineSchottenstein Wing for the Historic Costume & Textiles Collection
  • All-American Buckeye Grove
    • Located just to the south of Ohio Stadium, this park features a Buckeye tree (the State tree of Ohio) planted for each All-American football player in the University’s history.
  • Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens
    • Stroll through this 60-acre park honoring our Land-Grant tradition by providing extensive and diverse plant collections for education, research, and enjoyment. The 12,000 square foot green roof garden is open to the public, and everything is free admission.
  • Department of Athletics Hall of Fame
    • Located in the Jerome Schottenstein Center, the Athletics Hall of Fame honors athletes from all 39 varsity sports at Ohio State include special recognition of individual athletes as well as numerous team championship trophies and individual honors. Be sure to check out one of Archie Griffin’s two Heisman Trophies while in the Ohio Union for lunch or the mixer.
  • The Jack Nicklaus Museum
    • The Jack Nicklaus Museum is a 24,000 square-foot educational and historical facility where you will encounter the history of golf and its greatest practitioner, and OSU alumnus. Take an immersive journey through Jack’s brilliant career including trophies, photographs and various mementos from his unparalleled 20 major championships and 100 worldwide professional victories…and discover the many facets of this remarkable man who added so much to the history of golf.  Admission is $10.
