Bio-DiTRL, or Digital Teaching Resources Library for Biology During the ABLE 2001 conference at the University of Chicago, Mrinal Das from the University of Alberta gave a presentation on a new teaching resource, Bio-DiTRL, developed at his institution. This library has digital images, animations, video clips, and even text excepts, all chosen to aid in the teaching of biology. All resources on this site are free to subscribers, and subscribing is only a matter of filling out a form. Unlike other image databases, the resources at Bio-DiTRL have been peer-reviewed, assuring high quality. The editors also welcome contributions of suitable images and other electronic resources. You can visit the site at http://www.bio-ditrl.org.
A Short List of Up-coming Meetings While at the ABLE 2001 meeting, a long-time ABLE member suggested that I include a list of up-coming meetings for the year. It sounded like an excellent idea and fits in well with our new focus to create closer ties with other organizations. The list below is not inclusive, if you know of a meeting/organization that should be included, please email me. AIBS annual meeting in Washington, DC on March 22-24, 2002 "Evolution: Understanding Life on Earth"
Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL) National Conference for Undergraduate Research (NCUR) national meeting at University of Wisconsin, Whitewater on April 25-27, 2002 Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) National meeting held at Connecticut College, June 19-22, 2002. Clicking on the link will take you to the events calendar.
Format for Submissions to Labstracts Labstracts is about communication. So, we always need articles in addition to the basic business of the organization. Think about writing book, technique, or software reviews, notes about conferences, opinions, informational articles, original ideas, workshop uses or spin-offs, short notes, notification of conferences, etc. Don't feel that you can't contribute because you do not have the time to write a long article. A short article can be just as interesting as a long one. If you do decide to submit an article, please include a short bio on yourself. If you have the capability, send a scanned picture, too. Although I will accept articles sent by snail mail or fax, I would prefer them as e-mail attachments (to djschroeder@stthomas.edu) in either Word or WordPerfect. If you created the document on a Mac, please tell me that too, when you send it. Thanks in advance for your contributions. Doreen Schroeder
