Most of us run our labs on a weekly schedule, with things due every week- often coinciding with the face-to-face meeting times. As I am thinking about moving my labs online, I keep wondering if that is a construct of our traditional idea of class times. 

Does it make sense to switch to, for example, 3 units during the semester (each 4 weeks long) with all of the material being assigned at the beginning of each unit and all of it due at the end of the unit? This would replace 12 weeks of labs with new material assigned each week and due at the end of the same week. 

I am curious to hear the pros and cons of doing things this way.
