Abstract
Understanding the level of biological complexity is the focus of the emerging field of systems biology.
Many biologists are beginning to turn to systems biology to organize large data sets in a functional way that
allows the user to make quantitative predictions. Because the use of programs that organize these data is
becoming more prevalent in all areas of biology, it has become essential that students be trained in their
use. The primary objective of this lab is to provide students resources that introduce students to Cell
Illustrator, a simple systems biology program that illustrates and analyzes interacting molecular pathways.
