Make a Contribution to Labstracts: Your ABLE Conference Experiences

Have you ever applied what you learned at an ABLE conference to your own teaching? If you did, how did it go?

If you have contact me with a write up about whether it worked or not. Did you make changes to the lab? Are you still using it now? Why or why not?

All submissions are welcome at anytime, in addition to your experiences at ABLE conferences and how you have used the ABLE labs in your own labs. Do you have ideas for articles, even if you don't have time to write one yourself?

If you would like to submit an article or news item, please email bstegenga@bio.unc.edu. If you are submitting an article, please include information about yourself and a digital photograph (if possible) to include with the article. Photos of students or equipment "in action" are, of course, also always welcome.

Upcoming Meetings

Here is a short list of upcoming meetings that might interest ABLE members.

ABLE (Association for Biology Laboratory Education): The 2011 annual meeting will be from June 14-17, 2011, at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM.

HAPS Regional Conference: The upcoming Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) 24th Annual Conference will be hosted May 28-June 2, 2011 in Victoria, BC, Canada. HAPS conferences provide lots of great general teaching tips that any biology teacher can use, not just Anatomy & Physiology teachers. In essence a HAPS conference is a Multidisciplinary Teaching Conference. For more information go to: www.hapsweb.org . 

ACUBE (Association of College and University Biology Educators): The 55th Annual Meeting will be held October 27-29, 2011 at Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, TN.

AIBS (American Institute of Biological Sciences): For information about future meetings and events, please go to their website.

CUR (Council on Undergraduate Research): The 14th National Conference will be held at The College of New Jersey, Ewing, NJ, June 23-26, 2012.

NABT (National Association of Biology Teachers): The 2011 annual meeting will be in Anaheim, CA from October 12-15, 2011.

NCUR (National Conferences on Undergraduate Research): The 2011 annual meeting will be March 31-April 2, 2011 at Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY.

NSTA (National Science Teachers Association): The National Conference will be held in San Francisco, CA, March 10-13, 2011.

Project Kaleidoscope is devoted to undergraduate education in mathematics, engineering, and science. The website lists a variety of meetings and workshops. Upcoming events include "Engaged STEM Learning: From Promising to Pervasive Practices", March 24-26, 2011, Miami, FL.

Wakonse South: The Texas A&M Center for Teaching Excellence invites you to participate in the 14th Annual Wakonse South Conference on College Teaching. This event was held April 1-3, 2011 at Canyon of the Eagles Lodge & Nature Park in Burnet, TX.
