Purdue is a public, doctoral-granting research university, and Indiana's land-, sea-, and space-grant university. Purdue University is a coeducational, state-assisted system in Indiana. Founded in 1869 and named after benefactor John Purdue, the University is one of the nation's leading research institutions with a reputation for excellent and affordable education.
Building upon historical strengths in engineering and agriculture, the West Lafayette campus currently offers 7,400 courses in more than 500 undergraduate majors and specializations in the Colleges of Agriculture, Consumer and Family Sciences, Education, Engineering, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, Management, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmacal Sciences, Science, Technology, and Veterinary Medicine. Programs of graduate study and research leading to advanced degrees fall under the jurisdiction of the Graduate School
Purdue has an enrollment on the main campus in West Lafayette of 38,657 students (fall 2004) with students from 50 states and 130 countries.
LOCATIONThe main campus is in West Lafayette, Indiana (126 miles southeast of Chicago, 65 miles north of Indianapolis). Statewide university system includes five campuses and numerous teaching and research sites.

Lafayette/West Lafayette can be reached from Indianapolis and Chicago on Interstate 65. From the north (Chicago) exit at US 43 and take it to the West Lafayette campus. From the south (Indianapolis) exit at US 26 and take it to the campus in West Lafayette.
CONFERENCE HOUSINGThe Union Club is a full-service hotel in the Memorial Union.We have reserved rooms that will accommodate a maximum of 3 or 4 people. All Union Club accommodations include private baths, air-conditioning, and cable television. In addition, the Union Club features a pull-up off-street entrance, an attractive lobby, an exercise room, and free garage parking.
Purdue's student residence halls provide air-conditioned double and single rooms. These facilities include a high-rise graduate residence hall (Hawkins) across the street from Stewart Center. Parking at Hawkins is $1.00 per night for residents. Hawkins Residence Hall provides active phone service for local calls and credit card calls.
HOUSING COSTSCampus housing can be chosed from Purdue Campus Residence Hawkins Hall or the Union Club Hotel.

People staying at the Graduate House can park in the parking lot for an additional $1 per day. There is a 6% Sales Tax and a 5% County Innkeeper's Tax for all stays less than 30 days.
HOTELS AND MOTELSABLE has made arrangements with the Hilton Garden Inn West Lafayette Wabash Landing (1.5 mile from campus) for special rates for ABLE 2006 participants. Reservations should be made directly with the hotel. There is a local shuttle that stops at the Hilton Garden Inn about every 15 minutes from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Check the conference web site for details.
There are many area hotels within a 5-6 mile distance from Purdue’s campus with rates ranging from $48 to $140. You may contact them directly from the hotel web site, or the Lafayette Visitor’s web site.
PARKINGParking is strictly controlled on the Purdue Campus. Those staying in the Graduate Student housing can park in the housing parking lot for $1 per day. Those staying in the Union Club can park free in the next door Grant Street Parking Garage. Parking on campus after 5 pm is free in the garages, lots and staff parking except for numbered spaces.
FOODABLE 2006 will not offer a meal plan. The Purdue Memorial Union offers a variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner selections.
A number of inexpensive restaurants are located 2 - 4 blocks from the Memorial Union. Several excellent restaurants are located in downtown Lafayette and can be reached by car or shuttle
LOCATION OF WORKSHOPS, BANQUETS, COMPUTER ROOMSMost of the workshops, receptions, banquet, and computer rooms are within easy walking distance of Hawkins Graduate House and the Union Club. Lilly Hall of Biological Sciences will be the headquarters for the conference. The opening reception and banquet will be in the Student Memorial Union Ballroom.
TICKETS FOR RECEPTIONS, BANQUET, SPECIAL EVENTS AND FIELD TRIPS
Please let us know on your registration form if you will attend the opening receiption and the ice cream social. There is no fee for these but we would like to know the number attending. The ticket for the banquet is not included in your registration fee and must ber purchased separately on the registration form.
COMPUTER ACCESSPurdue University has wireless access in most dorms and buildings on campus.
